About the project
A word expressed often in Portuguese and Brazilian art, this is a sense of loneliness that is at once vague and persistent. It describes a kind of melancholy longing for something or someone that is missing from you.
What inspired you to create what you did?
The idea of saudade is the essence of my Visao project, which I shot on location in Portugal. The work is about getting lost and finding a new way to get back to my own vision by being out of my element.
The meaning of “saudade,” emerges from the stillness of shimmering water. A combination of a gorgeous gloss white cover from Sappi and spot gloss UV coating is made even more magical via our Heidelberg 8-color UV press with a 4C + PMS touch plate.
Freelance designer and FUEL creative team members Diane Fitzgerald Harris @dfhdesign and Michele Randall @michele.randall created unique typography inspired by each of the words in our FUEL 18: LINGO calendar. The typography for July’s word “saudade” starts out connected yet the further out it ventures it starts to drift, making it harder to hold on.
